You aren’t doing enough!!!

What? What does that mean, you may ask. Let me take a moment to explain. Are you having trouble losing weight? Do you think you are eating correctly, doing everything under the sun to lose those extra pounds but nothing is happening?

I have to be honest with you, and please forgive me-you are most likely not doing enough.

But, but, but…I can hear it already. You ARE eating well and you are exercising (that leisurely walk does NOT count). I understand, and I believe you.

However, I believe that the biggest setback one’s weight loss efforts stems with poor diet. We are so conditioned to eat large amounts in this country that most truly don’t understand what a TRUE portion size looks like.

So, when we go out to eat at a restaurant, you eat what you “think” is a normal portion, but in reality, it is probably too large or contains more calories than you think.

Why do I say this? Because I observe people’s eating habits and I’ve researched restaurant calorie facts. And from what I am seeing (but not judging, just observing), most of the time, people overeat. You can get away with this at 18, but not at 30, 40, or 50 and beyond.

I have said this before, over and over, and I feel that I am beginning to sound like a broken record. But I feel that repetition is the best way to get an idea to sink into the subconscious mind.

If you don’t adjust what you are eating from decade to decade, if you don’t account for the fact that your metabolism is slowing down, you will gain weight, slowly but surely.

I feel that most people need to do research as to how many calories they should be consuming in a given day. And if you need help with this, I will help you.

Also, although I am not a fan of calorie counting (if you are eating healthful, unprocessed, clean foods, you shouldn’t have much need for calorie counting, although it does help with those who are unable to control portions), I feel that many people would benefit from a program which teaches portion size and portion control (such as Weight Watchers). This program works-the meetings have been around for over 40 years and it is very helpful to those who are not quite sure if they are eating correct portions sizes. WW will help you get there. No, I am not getting compensation for advocating WW. I have seen it work and I truly do feel that most would benefit from the program. It is a known fact that most Americans are underestimating how many calories they are eating daily. Are you one of those people?

We don’t live in a mobile city-we drive to work, sit at work, then drive home and continue to sit again while watching TV. Very little calories are burned daily. And for those who think that doing housework and running from store to store is exercise, you are plain wrong. It’s better than nothing, but as far as losing weight is concerned, it won’t cut it.

I don’t want to sound harsh, but it’s time I start getting a bit more firm in regards to what it takes to shed pounds.
