Happy Holidays!

December 19, 2009

Hello and Happy Holidays!

Once again, the holidays have crept up on us! I hope you have been enjoying yourself, avoiding holiday stress, and spending time with loved ones.

This is a tough time of year for many, as it’s a time of year when there are plenty of parties, food, and drinks yet not enough time for exercise and decompression.  Why do some people get away with not gaining a pound over the holidays while others gain anywhere from 5-10 lbs?

I think you should definitely enjoy yourself during this time of year, but it’s not an excuse to go all out and eat everything in sight.  A good mind frame to have about this time of year is that tomorrow is a brand new day.  If you messed up one day or night, you can get right back on your routine the next day, whatever that may be.  It’s the attitude of “man, I really blew it last night, I might as well indulge again today” that will get you into a lot of trouble!

Don’t fear food either.  I truly feel that if you eat what you want in a reasonable amount, you will be less likely to overindulge and view food as the enemy.  Enjoy what you are eating, don’t gripe and stress about it, and move on.  Your relationship with food will improve and you will be less likely to view any food as taboo or off limits.

Remember that at the end of the day, it’s calories in versus calories out.  So, if you know you are going to have three martinis on a particular night, you better make up for those liquid calories by exercises a bit more that day or cutting out something else. Or else you’ll have me to contend with. 🙂

Have a wonderful holiday season! May you laugh, dance, and enjoy yourself to the fullest!

Warmest Wishes,

Jeannette
