Breast Cancer Awareness and…McDonald’s?
Greetings to all!
When I opened up Lifeline Magazine (a publication of the Y-ME breast cancer organization), I was appalled to see an article about McDonald’s in the sponsor spotlight section. The article involved two women who are both breast cancer awareness spokeswomen, and who were once breast cancer patients.
I found great irony in that both of these women work for the McDonald’s corporation. One of the ladies is a McDonald’s Corporation global chief diversity officer, and the other lady owns seven McDonald’s chains. One lady quoted, “It makes me proud to see that McDonald’s is willing to step up and get involved so actively. It reinforces the message that breast cancer touches everyone and McDonald’s is committed to making a difference-and committed to helping Y-ME ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone”.
Are your surroundings to blame for overeating?
I recently read an article in the LA Times Health section in regards to environment and overeating. How much of a part does our environment play in our obesity/overeating epidemic? I believe that it plays a large part in our crisis; however, I do not feel that one should blame advertising for weight loss failures. It is just another excuse for poor behavior and lack of self-control.
I personally feel that in all areas of life, we need to look within when something does not fall in our favor. Regardless of the situation, most likely there was something you could have done, or something that you could have changed. Humans do not like to take responsibility for their failures, plain and simple. It is much easier to put the blame on something or someone else.
Article about restaurants
Hello!
I took the following article from one of my favorite websites: mercola.com
Please check out the site when you have a moment-it is loaded with great articles and information.
I am passing along this one in particular because I feel that most people do not know what goes on behind the scenes in the restaurant industry. I know it is next to impossible to avoid restaurants, and I don’t expect you to.
Please, just be aware of what you are eating, and try to eat at high quality restaurants. The last time I checked the menu at Wendy’s, they stated that their salads were “healthy”. The salads averaged 600-700 calories, 30-40 grams of fat, and more sodium than one should eat in one day. Healthy? Yikes.
16 Secrets the Restaurant Industry Doesn’t Want You to Know
Want abs?
Hello!
A question that I am frequently asked is “how do I get abs?”, or even “how do I reduce this body part?” (as the woman I’m speaking to points to her inner thigh/outer thigh/tricep, etc). You can do all the crunches, all the spot reducing in the world, yet if you do not do the appropriate amount of cardio, and if you are not eating well, you will never get the abs or toned body that you desire. I know you’ve heard this before, but for some reason, it is the hardest concept to relay to people, in my eyes.
When I taught sculpt class, I remember the same ladies attending the class week after week. I loved teaching the class, but I was surprised to see how few women picked up heavier weight or challenged themselves in new ways, despite my trying to tell them that it was necessary in order to achieve results/change.
I specifically remember someone asking me about her inner thighs and what she could do to improve them. I asked her if she was doing cardio and how clean she was eating. But of course, she didn’t want to hear those things-she wanted a quick fix! No such thing, sorry.
Sticking to your guns
Happy February!
As you embark upon a more healthful lifestyle, and start changing your habits for the better, you may be challenged in ways that you may have not been prepared for. Family will push you to eat more, co-workers will tempt you with a piece of birthday cake, and friends might call you “lame” or “boring”, or even “WEIRD”! After hearing these words time and time again, you may actually start believing these heinous lies. But please, not to worry-you are on the right path-PLEASE STICK TO YOUR GUNS!
In my quest for a more healthful and holistic lifestyle, I’ve been called just about every name in the book. I’ve been the subject of family conversation, and I’ve been poked at (jokingly, but after the 50th time, it’s no longer funny) by friends. Just a few statements that I’ve heard in my day:
